Suspension Repairs in Polokwane
Suspension Repairs at Our Polokwane Workshop
Limpopo roads are hard on suspension. Potholes, gravel shortcuts and long stretches of corrugated surface wear out bushes, ball joints and shock absorbers far faster than the manufacturer's schedule assumes. We strip, inspect and rebuild suspension on German vehicles at our Polokwane workshop.
Symptoms We See
- Knocking or clunking over bumps and speed humps
- The car crashing harshly instead of absorbing road imperfections
- Uneven or feathered tyre wear on one side or one corner
- The nose diving heavily under braking or the car floating after a bump
- Vague steering, wandering on the highway or a steering wheel off centre
- Oil weeping down the body of a shock absorber
What the Work Involves
- Shock absorber and strut replacement
- Control arm, wishbone, bush and ball joint renewal
- Anti-roll bar link and bush replacement
- Wheel bearing replacement
- Steering rack, tie-rod and idler inspection
- Coil spring replacement and ride-height check
How We Diagnose It
Suspension faults are found on the lift and on the road, not on a scan tool. We load each joint with a pry bar to find play, check bushes for cracking and separation, inspect the shocks for leaks and bounce-test the car, then road test to confirm the noise you are hearing matches what we found. You are welcome to come under the car with us and see the worn component before approving the repair.
Mercedes-Benz Applications
Mercedes-Benz multi-link rear axles use several separate arms and bushes per side, and it is common for only one or two to be worn. We identify the specific arm rather than quoting a full axle rebuild, which usually saves a substantial amount. Where the vehicle has AIRMATIC air suspension instead of conventional springs, that work is covered on our AIRMATIC page.
This work is also carried out on BMW, Audi, Volkswagen and Porsche vehicles. If your car is a Mercedes-Benz, the Mercedes-Benz Specialists page explains our model-specific capability in more detail.

Suspension Repairs — Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Replacing one side only leaves the car with uneven damping across the axle, which affects braking stability and tyre wear. We quote per axle for this reason.
Any repair that disturbs the geometry, such as control arms or tie-rods, needs alignment afterwards. We will tell you when it is required and arrange it so the new components are not worn out by incorrect settings.
That is usually a worn anti-roll bar link, a perished bush or a top strut mount. They are relatively inexpensive parts, but left alone they accelerate wear on the shocks and steering components around them.
Yes. Mercedes-Benz is our speciality, but suspension work on BMW, Audi, Volkswagen and Porsche vehicles is routine here.
