AIRMATIC & Air Suspension Repairs at Our Polokwane Workshop

AIRMATIC is one of the systems that separates a Mercedes-Benz specialist from a general workshop. Air suspension faults are diagnosed by pressure testing and live level-sensor data, not by replacing components one at a time until the car sits level again. This is core work for us.

Symptoms We See

  • The car sitting low on one corner, or on the whole axle, after standing overnight
  • An AIRMATIC, 'Vehicle too low' or 'Stop, car too low' message on the dash
  • The compressor running for longer than usual or almost constantly
  • A harsh ride, or the vehicle refusing to change ride height
  • The rear sagging under load and failing to level up
  • Hissing from a strut or air line when the system charges

What the Work Involves

  • Air spring, bellow and strut replacement
  • Air compressor and relay replacement, including the air dryer
  • Valve block and air line leak repair
  • Level sensor replacement and calibration
  • Full system pressure and leak testing
  • AIRMATIC fault-code diagnosis and ride-height reset

How We Diagnose It

We soap-test and pressure-test the whole system, because the compressor almost always fails as a consequence rather than a cause: a leaking air spring makes the compressor run continuously until it burns out. Finding and fixing the leak first, then assessing the compressor, is what keeps the repair bill sensible. Level sensors are checked against live data and recalibrated after any suspension component is disturbed.

Mercedes-Benz Applications

AIRMATIC and AIRMATIC Dual Control appear on Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W220, W221, W222), E-Class (W211, W212), CLS, ML and GLE (W164, W166), GL and GLS, and the AIRMATIC-equipped G-Class variants. Vito and Sprinter models with rear air assistance follow the same diagnostic logic. We work on all of them, and where a customer prefers it, we discuss the practical trade-offs of conversion honestly rather than pushing one route.

This work is also carried out on BMW, Audi, Volkswagen and Porsche vehicles. If your car is a Mercedes-Benz, the Mercedes-Benz Specialists page explains our model-specific capability in more detail.

AIRMATIC & Air Suspension — Frequently Asked Questions

That is the classic signature of a leaking air spring or a leaking valve block seal. The system holds pressure while running and loses it slowly when parked. It is worth fixing quickly, because the compressor wears out trying to compensate.

No, and this is the most common expensive mistake. The compressor usually fails because it has been overworked by a leak elsewhere. Replace the compressor without fixing the leak and the new one fails too.

In most cases yes, and we would generally recommend repair, because conversion changes the ride and can leave suspension warning messages active. We will give you an honest comparison for your specific model.

Yes. We work on air suspension systems fitted to other German vehicles as well, using the same leak-testing and live-data approach.
